a studio for consumer human products a studio for human products
Most products build a world and ask you to move in. these enter the one you're already in.
Each one enters a relationship that already exists, does one thing inside it, and knows when to stop.
01 / a common thread
A place holds everything that happened to it and tells you none of it. Sage Orange gives the record a voice.
02 / the village commons
Two friends are a block apart and neither one knows. Presence is the rule that tells one of them.

Mara is nearby at
Hew’s Café. Nothing else.
Nothing shared. The rule is not met.
03 / the operating principle
Most products create a universe and ask you to enter it. These enter the world that is already there. The product notices context, responds, creates conditions, and sometimes disappears. It isn’t the whole story.
A commons isn’t only what people have in common. It’s a space of participation, where everyone’s actions matter and no one owns the whole experience. The products keep the same rule.
Monetization funds the work. It does not direct the work. The products are meant to sustain themselves, not to become enormous. A product that doesn’t need to capture you doesn’t need to grow that way either.
04 / behind the work
Human Commons is my studio. I’m Hew Suber, a product and design leader in Atlanta, by way of CNN, Meta, Pinterest, and Opendoor. I also run Bayesian Leaf, a product strategy and design engineering practice.
I call myself an aspiring product artist. Aspiring, because two products is not yet a body of work. The studio holds the practice and the products keep their own identities. Small is a choice, not a shortage. A product here needs enough people to sustain it, not enough to become the whole world.
